Winner of Eli's Cartoon Caption Contest No. 124

"I meant please don't ask any!"

                                                  (by Rich Wolf)

My original caption: "But, sir, all I said was 'How do you do?'!"

Nice going, Rich Wolf -- it's a first win for you! You now join the ranks of one of the funniest people around. Congratulations!

I honestly feel that my original caption from many, many decades ago, as shown above, is funnier than any of the captions submitted by you captioneers. But what do I know? Scores of Cartoon Editors rejected my cartoon over the years. As I say in the rules of this contest, it was never bought or printed,  by even the lowest publication. So who's right -- me or them?

Here are the other captions I was seriously considering for top honors:

"I assure you everyone will ask that, Mr. Schemiel." (by Brendan Gannon -- by the way, Brendan, I believe that name should rightly be "Schlemiel")

"No, the sign means, don't you ask any embarrassing questions!" (by Tim Collins -- a caption that was very similar to Rich Wolf's, but I thought Wolf's wording was funnier)

"But I ask everyone if they would like a lollipop." (by Cary Antebi)

"When I asked you your name, how was I to know it's Sue?" (also by Cary Antebi)

A new contest will appear in just a few short weeks -- thanks to all of you for participating.
