November 2015

Winner of Eli's Cartoon Caption Contest No. 92

"I'm impartial. The back of my jacket says to 'Vote Row A'."

                                         (by Howard Garrett)

My original caption: "I've just about had it with this election!"

Wow, congratulations, Howard Garrett! Two consecutive wins and seven total wins. I guess I don't have to tell you that you are definitely one of the funniest people around.

Obviously, my own original caption was a total nonentity. I probably would have had a better chance of selling this gag if I had kept it captionless. Here are two of the other captions I put on the cartoon over the years, as I kept re-drawing and re-submitting it, unsuccessfully, to various publications: "Is it election time already?" (I kinda like that particular caption right now), and "I'm really beginning to HATE election time!"

Getting back to your submissions, here are the other captions that I was considering for top honors:

"Happens every time I forget to wear my 'Post No Bills' tie." (by Cary Antebi)

"My support for Row B has begun to waver." (by John Platt)

"I'm glad the worker didn't attach BUS STOP on my head." (also by Howard Garrett)

"Starting tomorrow morning until Election Day, I'm gonna start reading the newspaper just like you." (by Arnie & Evan)

Good work, everyone. Contest No. 93 should start in a couple of weeks, so be on the lookout for it.

Eli's Cartoon Caption Contest No. 92

Contest No. 92 starts right now.

Briefly, here are the details: I'll supply a drawing of one of my old cartoons that has never been published, leaving off my caption. You are invited to supply your funniest captions. Simply (1) click on "Add New Comment". Then (2) scroll down past any other submitted captions and type in your name and your caption in the spaces provided. Then (3) click "Save". Your caption (or captions) will be posted after I review your submission.

There is no limit on the number of captions you can enter for each drawing. Entries will be accepted and posted for one week, after which a winner will be announced and the winning caption will be printed. Below that I will also print my original caption.

The cut-off time and date for you to send in your captions for this contest is midnight Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

I will be the sole judge. The winning caption will be the one I judge to be the funniest one submitted (not necessarily the one that matches or comes closest to my original caption). Additional rules and regulations, for those of you who need such things, can be found here.

Below is the drawing that needs your caption.
